Building a Website Step by Step
You want a website and can hardly wait to get it up, so stepping back and doing a little
planning first probably isn't what you want to hear. Perhaps you already know exactly what your site will be
about, its domain name, its purpose, how you want it to look, etc. But if not, building a website step by step will
go so much smoother, easier and faster, and be so much more to your benefit and its success, by far, with some
planning and forethought.
How to Build a Website from Scratch
The Crucial Step 1 is Planning Your
Site--
1. First you need to determine the purpose of your site.
Will it be personal with photos and information for family and friends?
Will it be educational with lots of content about your subject of interest?
Will it be it commercial with one or more products for sale?
Will it be a formal site that promotes your business?
Will it have any other purpose, or some combination of the above?
2. Next, when choosing a domain name, pick one that reflects the above
purpose.
3. How do you envision your website to look?
Masculine, with a smart, business or sporty look?
Feminine, with a flowery, homey or family theme?
Tailored, with more of a formal look for a business or educational site?
Product oriented, with lots of images and product descriptions?
Obviously the above aren't all inclusive. There are millions of websites on the
Web--all different--and yours will be unique from all the others. It's yours, so create it with exactly the
look you want it to have.
All the above things need to be considered when in the planning stages of building a
website step by step. So get your pencil and paper and start brainstorming. Yes, even in this modern
age of computers and keyboards, pen and pencils still work best for some jobs. :>)
You don't want to go any farther until you have a firm idea of where you're headed in
creating your website.
When your plan is firmly in hand, proceed to the next successive step of building a
website step by step which is choosing a domain name.
